KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Prices: Overall, imported food items showed mixed trends compared to the previous week. In Puntland, rice and wheat flour increased by 9% and 5%, respectively, per kg; also, vegetable oil increased by 6 %/litre. But in the same markets of Puntland, sugar and pasta prices decreased by 6% and 2%, respectively, per kg. In Galmudug, vegetable oil, sugar, and rice prices dropped by 7% per litre, 5%, and 4% per Kg, respectively, but the retail price of pasta and wheat flour reported a slight increase compared to the previous week. In Hirshabelle, the price of vegetable oil dropped by 7% per litre while in Mogadishu, rice increased by 5% per kg, but wheat flour, pasta, sugar, and vegetable oil remained the same as the previous week. In Southwest, the retail price of all the imported food items went down slightly, and the price remained the same in Somaliland and Jubaland for three consecutive weeks.

Local cereal prices exhibited mixed trends compared to the previous week. In Hirshabelle, red sorghum decreased by 11% due to the increased supply and arrival of new stocks during the last two weeks through local production. In Galmudug, white maize and red sorghum increased by 3% per kg. In Puntland, red sorghum increased by 3% per kg, but white maize decreased by 4%. In the Southwest, red sorghum and white maize decreased by 2% and 1%, respectively. Both red sorghum and white maize remained the same in Mogadishu, Somaliland, and Jubaland for the last two weeks.
In Galmudug, camel milk prices increased by 4% per litre but dropped in Hirshabelle, Puntland, and Southwest by 4%, 3%, and 1% per litre. The price of camel milk remained the same in Mogadishu, Somaliland, and Jubaland for two consecutive weeks. The goat proces also increased in Hirshabelle and Mogadishu by 12% and 5%, respectively but reduced by 16% in Puntland mainly due to the excessive supplies in the markets. Diesel prices decreased by 4% and 3% in Hirshabelle and Puntland, respectively, per litre but remained unchanged from last week in Somaliland, Galmudug, Mogadishu, Southwest, and Jubaland.
